Pennsylvania | Hope Springs | Georgia | Illinois The summer of 2002 I got the opportunity to teach several young people in West Chester, PA. The following photos are of a show some of them attended in August.
Emily Hodge riding Conner, a 3 1/2 year old thoroughbred at a schooling show in August, 2002. Emily took home a handful of ribbons from that show, including a 1st place in equitation. Emily's mom, Sharon, paid me a great compliment – she said I created an atmosphere of excellence for the girls that made them want to do their best. That really made me feel good, especially now when sports for young adults is so often steeped in negative competitiveness, where a person's self-worth is tied into winning instead of personal excellence.
Ashley, getting Joanie, a 8 year-old quarter horse pony, ready for the same show. It was her first show, and despite her nerves she also brought home ribbons from every class. |
